jackson’s nursery

Jesse finally put together the bookshelf in Jackson’s nursery, so I feel like it’s pretty much complete. It’s bright, colorful, and fun. I don’t have a great camera, and I took these in the evening, so there’s no natural light to steal, but you’ll get the jist.

I had these made with jpg files I created, which is hilarious, because I am NOT a graphic designer of any sort of the word. but I was proud of how they turned out.

I love books, I hope Jackson does, too. I also love giraffes, but I have a feeling he may not share that sentiment.

I’m proud of this room mostly because it’s full of personal touches from me. I made the mobile and the crib rail bumpers, the crib skirt and the toy box liner, designed the pics on the wall, recovered the chair, repainted the dresser, painted the room… all for my little man.

oh, I forgot my friend took these when she did JackMack’s newborn photos… much better pictures 🙂

35 weeks… brought to you by the letter P(ee)

I have peed so many times today that I should take out stock in toilet paper. Mr. McMuffin is running out of rib space and is now taking up real estate on my bladder and pelvic bone, hence the potty dance every 30 minutes or so. And the sciatic nerve pain as well as some fun shoot-down-the-front-of-my-leg nerve singers, too. Couple this with my pathetic ability to sleep and holy hell fire heart burn if I forget the Prilosec for one day, and you’ve got one hot pregnant mess. BUT, I am happy to keep him in there until 40 weeks. It’s not like I’m going to get any sleep once he gets here anyway.

35wks

nothing beats the, “oh crap, we need to take a picture, despite how tired I look” bumpdate. sorry!

Seriously, it’s like there’s a watermelon in there. A watermelon with REALLY strong legs. And toes that I cannot wait to count and kiss.  I have no idea how he will make more room. The inn is full, no more space available.  I’m going to explode out of my belly button here soon.  And the hernias keep growing…. he’s pushing things out wherever he can… luckily (maybe??) I can’t see them anymore, just feel them growing. Miraculously enough, still no visible stretch marks…. but I’m not keeping my fingers crossed that will last. I know better.

I’ve been busy nesting, opening boxes and even washing some blankets 🙂 I finished sewing 30 burp cloths and the skirt for the crib in the last 2 days, as well as started on re-painting the dresser. It feels good to check things off my to-do list.

Unfortunately I still don’t have a nanny lined up… my latest good prospect declined 😦 I have a couple more options to go through. Hopefully something will work out.

with the crib skirt to hide stuff under the crib. I think I like it better than without.

Without the skirt. What do you think, better or worse??

Other than that, things remain fairly status-quo.  I hope to get the hospital bag mostly packed this weekend, just in case. And finish painting the dresser. And motivate my hubby to put up the trim and switch the electrical plug-ins  and light switches to white ones. Hopefully we can get all of those things done. Check. Check. Check.

OH, and the best news of the week has nothing to do with me, but it is totally worth a happy dance. Lentil, whom I have never met in real life but definitely feels like someone I would get along with really well, is not only pregnant but is pregnant with TWINS 🙂 AH, SO EXCITING! Congrats girlie!

34 weeks

A year ago at this time we were on our second cycle of clomid. I felt alone and angry, stuck in a town I didn’t like, feeling like an inadequate female. I was a miserable person to be around. Now, … Continue reading

nursery: part 1

The nursery. The quintessential piece of bringing a baby home, besides the baby. Before there was a Baby Muffin, there was an image of a nursery in my mind. Of course, that image changed a little when we actually made a baby, and when we found out it was a boy, and again when we moved into our own home.  While it’s been many things in my mind, there were many things it wasn’t. Frilly, not so much. And characters, no. No offence to those who can delve into a theme, but it’s just not me. So how did I plan? With a Pinterest board, of course! I knew I wanted navy blue with a little orange… and I might have bit a little hard on the chevron craze, although I’ve tried to reign myself in…

a few pics from my pinterest board

I’m not super-duper crafty or originally imaginative… but with a little pin-spiration, I can duplicate almost anything. And, I didn’t want to spend a ton, so I started scoping out deals early. When we moved into the house, the couple moving out was 8 months pregnant (like me now!) with a baby girl… their move was a little spur-of-the-moment, and they had already prepped a nursery for a little girl…

It was cute, shades of brown and pink… but nothing like the image in my mind…

I’ve been crazy busy with school and work, but with a small break from classes for the next 6 weeks, I am in full-on get-the-nursery-ready mode. So I’ve compiled almost all of it…

a crib, dresser, and changing table from our friends… (I hope to have enough ambition to paint it all white, we’ll see…)

fabric for curtains and fabric and other supplies to make the mobile and crib teething bumpers…

new trim… paint… I’m still waiting on the opportunity to get a shelf from Ikea (sometimes living in SD sucks) and for the delivery of the back-ordered chevron rug from Pottery Barn, but most of it is here, ready to be painted, sewed, and organized with love…

more pics to come as things come together 🙂
